While we wait

Hopefully on Saturday we’ll know if we have an asbestos problem. In the meantime possibly unwisely T has started gutting the current cupboards.

In the middle of making a mess.

As you can see T was having fun pulling things to bits.

So our pantry contents are now sharing bookcase space and our dishes are in the unused change table.

Hopefully he’ll be just as happy this weekend. If we get the all clear the rest will come out this weekend and the “new” sink will go in. Then the following week I will finish the floors and we can move on to building the island.
So many things to do and now that we’ve been stuck in limbo for nearly two weeks I doubt we’ll be done in time for Christmas.

Making the best of before

Because we are doing this renovation ourselves, except where we need plumbers, electricians etc, it’s going to be slow going. In the meantime I like to nest and make the before as comfortable and attractive as possible. It’s not possible for it to be very pretty with our gross carpet and brown architraves.

Yesterday was spent rearranging our tiny lounge to try and make better use of the space. I think for now we have our best possible before lounge.

There’s a lot to do but at least there’s somewhere comfortable to sit while doing it.

The kitchen as it is

Or as I prefer to think about it, the kitchen before.

The plan, between now and Christmas, is to gut the current kitchen and install a new one while partially opening the room up to the lounge creating a better flow and more light.

We’re thinking polished floorboards, concrete benchtops and ample storage.

Here’s the basic layout for the new kitchen.

Over the next few posts I’ll share my inspiration for the overall look and feel of the new kitchen.
